For more than a decade, the Rowan Foundation has raised awareness, provided reliable information, and supported women in making informed health decisions about blood clot risks and overall health. Since its founding in 2013, the Foundation has addressed often-overlooked issues to ensure that women feel informed, supported, and heard.
This spring, the Foundation is pleased to announce the launch of its new Patient & Community Advisory Group (PCAG).
Meet the founding members here and read more about their experiences and insights here.
Patient Insights and Experiences
PCAG was formed on a simple belief: Some of the best insights in healthcare come from people who have lived the experience. Patients who have survived a blood clot, family members who have lost loved ones to a blood clot, caregivers, and community advocates often understand the emotional, practical, and communication challenges of care in ways that data alone cannot capture.
The group brings together individuals whose experiences can enhance education, outreach, and the development of patient-centered resources. Members understand the challenges of seeking answers, managing uncertainty, advocating for themselves or others, and making critical decisions in stressful times.
The Rowan Foundation values research and clinical expertise but recognizes that they are most effective when paired with real-world perspectives. Patients and families often identify gaps in awareness, unmet needs, and overlooked concerns before institutions do. PCAG was established to ensure these insights drive meaningful progress in the space involving women’s health and clotting.
Commitment to Listening
The creation of PCAG builds on the Foundation’s commitment to listening to the community it serves. It also reflects themes from the organization’s roundtable, “Informed Choices: Improving Contraceptive Outcomes for Women,” which emphasized supporting informed decision-making and meeting women where they are.
This past April, the Foundation held the group’s inaugural meeting, where PCAG members engaged in a thoughtful, wide-ranging discussion, sharing numerous insights related to “patient voice” in women’s health and clotting.
Through PCAG, members will have opportunities to share ideas, offer insights, and help shape future Foundation initiatives in women’s health, blood-clot awareness, education, and patient-centered care. Their feedback will lead to additional educational offerings from the Foundation, expanded awareness campaigns, practical patient tools, and resources that reflect the real questions and challenges women face at different stages of life.
Growing Initiative
Although the group begins with founding members, the Rowan Foundation views PCAG as a growing initiative that will welcome new voices and broaden its impact over time.
We sincerely thank the founding members for their time, experience, and insights. Their involvement marks an important new chapter for the Foundation and advances our shared goal of improving awareness and outcomes for women.
As we observe National Women’s Health Month, the launch of PCAG highlights that meaningful progress begins with listening.
