Education
The Cornerstone of the Rowan Foundation Efforts
The Rowan Foundation has played an instrumental role in the blood clotting community since 2013, when it first began its mission-driven outreach and educational efforts related to the continuum of blood clot risks women face throughout their lifetime, including family planning and birth control, pregnancy and childbirth, and the treatment of menopause symptoms with hormone therapy.
During this time, the Rowan Foundation has been focused on education and raising awareness about the risks of dangerous blood clots in women’s health, reaching millions of women with potentially life-saving information.

2026: Strengthening Community Connection & Informed Dialogue
In 2026, the Rowan Foundation is advancing its mission by deepening engagement with the communities most affected by women’s health and clotting risks, while continuing to emphasize evidence-informed education and clinical perspective. Building on recent collaboration with healthcare experts, the Foundation is focusing this year on creating meaningful opportunities for connection, dialogue, and shared learning among patients, families, clinicians, and advocates.
This work reflects a growing emphasis on community-informed insight, peer connection, and patient-centered approaches across women’s reproductive and hormonal health experiences. Through continued resource development and the thoughtful introduction of new engagement-focused efforts, the Foundation is working to support informed conversations, strengthen trust, and promote clearer understanding of blood clot risk within both clinical settings and everyday health decision-making.
This year, the Rowan Foundation is also implementing a new national writing scholarship program, including a first-of-its-kind scholarship for women affected by blood clots and/or clotting disorders pursuing an undergraduate degree in English or creative writing. In conncetion with this new program, the organization is also making a new web-based resource available for aspiring writers. This new resource can be viewed here.
Additional details about the Foundation’s new initiatives and resources in 2026 will be shared as they are introduced throughout the year.
2025: Expanding Collaborations to Improve Awareness & Outcomes
In 2025, the Rowan Foundation expanded its efforts by working with experts in women’s health and clotting to hold its Informed Choices Roundtable in collaboration with the University of Houston Student Health Center. New resources, including personal perspectives and Roundtable proceedings in both print and video formats, were shared by the Rowan Foundation to help document gaps in women’s health and clotting, particularly as they relate to contraception decision making. Also, we expanded our spectrum of resources with new educational videos and infographics focused on person-centered decision making related to women’s reproductive health and clotting.

2024: Focused on Potentially Life-Saving Insights
In 2024, the Rowan Foundation expanded its efforts with a focus on genetic testing in thrombophilia to help 1) increase blood clot risk identification 2) sharpen accuracy and expediency of blood clot diagnoses and 3) improve outcomes and save lives. The new resources stemming from this work, including web-based content and educational videos and infographics, are intended to increase the clotting community’s recognition of the emerging promise of genetic testing used to inform decision-making relative to women’s reproductive health, including contraception options, prethis is gnancy and childbirth, and the treatment of menopause symptoms with hormones.
