We are able to release the name of our keynote author for the upcoming Fourth Annual Alex Rowan Creative Writing Festival, to be held at Pitt during April 12-13 of this year. Allison Amend is an established writer who actually taught for a while at Pitt, although she’s presently based in New York. Her first book was a collection of short stories called ‘Things That Pass For Love’. This was followed by two novels, ‘Stations West’ and ‘A Nearly Perfect Copy’. Allison’s most recent book, ‘Enchanted Islands’, is a novel that is essentially a chronicle of female friendship, mixed with an intriguing blend of WW2 spies and the Galapagos Islands. It received a glowing review from the New York Times when first published in 2016. We look forward to meeting Allison and all our friends and students in Pittsburgh during the Festival. Although our visits are always bittersweet with so many happy and sad memories, the Festival is an important part of Alex’s legacy.
